On Sunday, February 3 John was among 48 Japanese Canadians awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal at a ceremony at Nikkei Centre. The award was in recognition of his years serving the community, both through his work on The Bulletin, and his contributions to taiko through his performing and composing.
